Why we build nearshore from Romania

Every development quote leads with an hourly rate, and offshore usually wins that number. We build nearshore from Constanța, Romania, and we think the rate is the wrong thing to optimize. Here is why.

The rate is not the cost

The real cost of building software is the rate multiplied by how many round trips it takes to reach the right result, plus the friction of working across a big time gap. A cheaper team many time zones away looks like a saving until you count the day-long delays on every question and the calls scheduled at 6am because that is the only overlap.

Nearshore from the EU trades a mid-range rate for a working day you actually share. Questions get answered the same day. Decisions happen on a call, not in a thread that spans two business days. For a product still changing week to week, that feedback loop usually nets out cheaper than the lower rate did.

What Romania specifically offers

Romania is in the EU, on Central European Time, with a deep pool of senior engineers and English as the working norm in tech. For an EU or UK client that means a near-full working-day overlap, GDPR-native data handling, and contracts under EU law. For a US client it means a few real hours of overlap at the start of the US day, enough to keep decisions moving without anyone living on a night shift.

When we will tell you to go offshore

We are not the answer to every brief, and we will say so. If you have a large, exhaustively specified body of work and the only thing that matters is the lowest possible rate, offshore can win on cost. If you need a permanent team that lives with your product for years, hire in-house. Nearshore wins the middle: a product taking shape, where communication speed and senior judgment matter more than the last few dollars off the rate.
