What is nearshore development?

Nearshore development means outsourcing software work to a nearby country in a similar timezone, rather than a distant one. Compared with far-off "offshore" work, the overlap in working hours and culture makes everyday collaboration far easier: same-day answers, real meetings, fewer things lost in translation.

Why it matters

Where your software team sits changes how it feels to work with them more than people expect. The three usual options are onshore (your own country), offshore (a distant country, often chosen purely on price), and nearshore (a nearby country in a close timezone). The thing that quietly makes or breaks an outsourced build is overlap: when a question at 10am gets answered at 10am, not at midnight, momentum holds. Nearshore is the middle path, lower cost than hiring locally, but without the lag and friction that distance adds.

Nearshore vs offshore

The difference is hours and distance. Offshore can look cheaper per hour, but an eight or twelve hour gap means every clarification costs a day, meetings land at awful times for someone, and small misunderstandings compound before anyone notices. Nearshore keeps your team and the developers awake at the same time, so a blocker gets unblocked the same day and reviews happen in real conversation. For an early-stage company moving fast, that responsiveness is often worth more than a slightly lower rate, because lost days are the real expense.

Where we sit

We are on the Romanian coast, in Constanța, which puts us in a central European timezone with comfortable overlap across Europe and a workable one with the UK. But we would rather you judge us on the model than the map. Our pitch is senior-only delivery with no offshore handoffs: the senior people who scope your work are the ones who build it, and nothing gets quietly passed down to a cheaper, junior team you never met. The point of nearshore is closeness, and the point of how we work is that the closeness is to the actual people doing the build, with the judgement of a senior CTO, or a fractional CTO standing in for that seat, on it the whole way.
